Cyber cell nabs 6 for online gambling through app
Gamblers had employed 24/7 team to facilitate live streaming of card games through a mobile phone camera attached to Genesis Game app
As tech progresses, crime too turns to newer ways. But the police are never behind. In a first, cyber cell busted an online gambling racket operated through a mobile application called Genesis Game, and arrested eight persons. The remotely-located accused had joined through the app which is said to be developed by gamblers. The racket was being run from a room near Jupiter Mill in the Dudheshwar area.
Sources said that the city has been witnessing a growing trend wherein locals are turning to a new gambling game known as ‘Teriyu’ (also known as Andar-Bahar or Janna) which is played through the app. The accused have been identified as Usmangani Ladhani, his son Samsuddin Ladhani, Imamuddin Ladhani, Pravin Chauhan, Moin Shaikh, Samir Ahmed Ansari, Vipul Chauhan and Ravi alias Mahadev Chauhan.
DCP Ajit Rajian told Mirror that the gambling den operators now have turned around the traditional card-playing game into a live streaming game. “These gamblers had employed a 24/7 team to facilitate live streaming of card games through a mobile phone camera attached to the Genesis Game application,” said DCP Rajian.
PSI BB Solanki of Cyber Crime told Mirror that accused Usmangani and his son Samsuddin used to send their men to people interested in gambling to install the app in their mobile phones. Initially, the accused would collect cash from gamblers and place it as a balance in the app.
“The game was operated from a room, and the gamblers would watch live streaming of card distribution. Through mobile phone cameras, the gamblers could see card distribution and feet of other gamblers and the one who manages the game which would keep the identities hidden. The money was either transferred to the gambler online or cash if the gambler won. Similarly, if the gamblers lose, the money would be deducted from their balance loaded under their nickname on the app,” Solanki said.
Despite apprehending the accused operating the game, authorities are still working to trace the gamblers and the developers behind the online gambling application. Notably, the accused individuals, including Usmangani, Samsudding, Moin, Samir, Vipul, and Ravi, have a history of multiple cases, ranging from Arms Act violations to assault, rioting, and gambling charges. PSI BB Solanki emphasized the need to apprehend both the gamblers and those responsible for developing the illicit application.
Police sources said that though the accused have been caught red-handed managing the game from the room, cops still have to trace the other gamblers and the app developer. Those arrested have been previously booked for various offences. “While Usmangani was booked under the Arms Act and Gambling act with rioting and assault charges, Samsuddin was booked for murder, gambling and assault. Moin too has been booked for murder, rioting and under the Arms Act. Samir was booked for murder and under the Arms Act and Prohibition Act. Ravi and Vipul too have cases of assault and gambling against them,” said PSI BB Solanki.
