Crackdown on illegal gambling nets 11 in Angeles City

MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — At least 11 persons were arrested during a city-wide crackdown against illegal gambling, the city police said Tuesday, Sept. 13.

In a statement, newly installed city police director Colonel Juritz Rara said about P8,300 in bet money was confiscated from the suspects caught gambling on Monday.

He said two men were caught playing “cara y cruz” in Lourdes Sur East, four were engaged in “winner takes all” game in Sta. Teresita, three were playing “tong-its” in Balibago, while two others playing “cara y cruz” in Cutcut.

The suspects will be charged with illegal gambling.

Meanwhile, police arrested around 8:30 p.m. on Monday John Mangune, 25, in Cutcut for alleged illegal possession of a firearm and illegal drugs.

Rara said an undercover policeman managed to buy a sachet of “shabu” (crystal meth) from Mangune using a marked P500 bill.

When accosted, Mangune allegedly yielded a. 38-caliber revolver loaded with four live bullets and three small sachets containing suspected shabu with a combined weight of about two grams.

The suspect faces charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. INQ
