“In view of gambling on Diwali, like every year, the SHOs were and operational teams were ordered to identify and take strict action on such activities,” ANI quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ghanshyam Bansal.
Cops were tipped off about a regular massive gambling activities at the Hotel City West End on Club Road Punjabi .
The DCP said that the police source was asked to keep an eye on the activities being carried out at the hotel.
According to police, a tip off was received that a large number of people would gather at the hotel’s Banquet Hall on the first floor for gambling activities on October 22.
Acting on the information, police conducted a raid at the hotel and found 29 people including some women gambling on different tables.
The ‘gamblers’ threw their cards and stood up as they saw the police raiding the premises. All of them have been arrested.
Police said they are also scanning the CCTV footage of the hotel of last few days .
An FIR under gambling law has been filed against the accused. “During questioning of the accused, it was found that the hotel manager would charge an entry fee of Rs 2,500 per person to allow gambling activities at the hotel along with serving foods and snacks,” said the DCP.
Police said further action is being taken against the staff and management of the hotel.
