Shocking reports emerged on Monday that revealed Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is being investigated by the NFL for allegedly gambling on around 100 games, including Colts games. Rodgers addressed those reports later on Monday in a statement posted on social media.
Rodgers took to Instagram to post a statement, owning up to his mistakes and “taking full responsibility for his actions”.
“Addressing the current reports, I want to take full responsibility for my actions,” Rodgers said in his statement shared by Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team on Twitter. “I know I have made mistakes and am willing to do whatever it takes to repair the situation. The last thing I ever wanted to do was to be a distraction to the Colts organization, my coaches, and my teammates. I’ve let down the people that I care about. I made an error in judgment and I am going to work hard to make sure that those mistakes are rectified through this process. It’s an honor to play in the NFL and I have never taken that lightly. I am very sorry for all of this.”
The NFL world took notice of this, with many offering a wide range of reactions to it. Some gave him credit for acknowledging his faults and owning up to them.
Others didn’t exactly see it as a “mistake” considering the sheer number of bets that he reportedly had a part in making.
It remains to be seen exactly what kind of punishment the NFL has in store for Rodgers. We saw former Atlanta Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley receive a year-long suspension for gambling on Falcons games while he was injured.
Rodgers’ punishment could be more severe considering he was on the field and playing for the large majority of the Colts games last season. He suited up for 15 of 17 Colts games last year.
