Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday called stringent steps and legal provisions to control online gambling.
In a communication to Director General of Police Ashok Juneja, the Chief Minister said gambling and betting were becoming a social menace in the state. There was an urgent need to curb it, he said.
Baghel underlined the need to bring a foolproof law to curb online gambling.
“Online gambling has become one of the fastest growing sectors today. However, due to the lack of any legal provision and clear course of action, it cannot be effectively controlled. Taking a step ahead, the government will now draft necessary legal provisions and procedures to curb online gambling and betting,” he said. As there was no legal framework, draft legal provisions and procedures for curbing various forms and platforms of gambling and betting should be prepared, he said.
Chhattisgarh had been taking proactive steps to curb gambling and betting across the state. But people have started to use online platforms for gambling and betting to avoid any legal action, an official communication said.
