City Cops Raid Gambling Den, 43 Detained & 6 Lakh Seized | Thane News - Times of India

Thane: The city crime branch busted an illegal gambling den that operated in the Kopri area and detained 43 persons who were involved in gambling activities and seized Rs 6.43 lakh from them.
A senior police officer said that the gambling operation is owned by a person named Babu Nadar and was operational in the locality for a very long time.
Punjabrao Ugale, the additional commissioner of police (crime) said that on Tuesday around 9 pm, the sleuths from the four crime branch units jointly raided the premises of the gabling operation in the Kopri area in which 43 persons were rounded up by the sleuths.
The raiding party found that the accused were playing a game of Teen Patti and among the detainees were the club’s Manager, Sandeep Patil who was operating the den on the behalf of its owner, Babu Nadar.
During the raid, a substantial amount of Rs. 6.43 lakh was seized from the individuals involved in the illicit gambling activities.
Deputy Commissioner (crime), Shivraj Patil mentioned that no arrests have been made so far in the case, as the offence falls under the category punishable with imprisonment below 7 years. They have issued notice to the accused under the relevant sections.
A police case has been registered at the Kopri police station under various sections of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act.
