channelnews : Google Punts On Gambling In New Play Store Redesign

Keen to extract as much advertising they can into their apps Google has released an updated version of the Google Play Store with access to more gambling apps.

With version 39.5.18, for Android, this update is designed for Android devices running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher, with Google moving to introduce a dedicated search page with prompts to download a multitude of apps other than the one you want to download.

While the update typically installs automatically, users now have the option to manually initiate the download and installation process.

What you will notice is that Google experimenting with a notable modification to the Play Store with the search bar moved to the top of the Search tab.

Basically, Google want to sell more advertising while trying to get consumers to download more apps that they make money from.

The move has upset a lot of users who are concerned about usability and the potential for more aggressive advertising tactics.

Google also plans to broaden the availability of real-money gambling apps despite moves in Australia to try and stop teenagers and problem gamblers getting access to new gambling apps.

The big social media Company claims that their decision to expand access to gambling apps, comes with strict adherence to age and location restrictions to promote safety and legal compliance.

This expansion is anticipated to increase competition among app developers who are turning to gambling in an effort to generate more gaming revenue.

Once installed, the Google Play Store icon should appear on your home screen or in the app drawer.
