The man was charged with money laundering and illegal gambling after an investigation from Internal Affairs, he appeared in Lower Hutt’s District Court on Tuesday.

Money laundering charges carry a maximum 7 year prison sentence, and gambling is a regulated industry in New Zealand.

An Internal Affairs spokesperson says things like this help limit gambling related crime.

The man will appear in court again next month to enter a formal plea deal.
