Nashik: The Nashik city police have upped their action against gambling dens and the illegal sale of liquor in the city.
From January to April this year, the police cracked 59 gambling cases as against the 14 they cracked in the same period last year. Similarly, they solved 190 cases of illegal sale and transport of liquor as compared to 71 last year.
The police said that on the instructions of CP Ankush Shinde all efforts are being made to ensure that gambling dens and illegal sale of liquor is stopped in the city.
Senior police officials said many times, during festivals when there could be an issue of law and order, the district administration issues an order that liquor stores should be kept closed for a day or longer depending on the situation.
Some people use such occasions to their advantage and buy liquor bottles in large numbers beforehand so they can sell them at a higher price
