Two sisters residing in Goa were charged with abetment to suicide in connection with the death of a 50-year-old real estate businessman from Pune who suffered losses in online and casino gambling.

The deceased has been identified as Vikas Tingre, and his son filed the first information report (FIR) at the Vimantal police station on Thursday. The police have booked Aprita Das (35) and her sister Sushmita Das (33) from Goa under sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Tingre allegedly died by suicide on May 23, 2023, at his residence in an apartment in Lohegaon. Initially, the police registered a case of accidental death (AD) and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

Police sub-inspector M. P. Salvi, the investigating officer, stated that the deceased had left a suicide note blaming the two women from Goa for repeatedly urging him to come to Goa for online and casino gambling.

“Tingre was into the real estate business. After conducting an investigation, we lodged an FIR against the two women from Goa for their role in Tingre’s suicide. No arrests have been made yet, and the probe is ongoing,” said Salvi.

According to a police press release, the FIR alleges that the accused women enticed Tingre into online gambling and gambling at a casino in Goa. “Even after he won money, they did not allow him to cash out… He eventually lost the money in gambling, and due to this deception, he fell into depression and hanged himself on May 23,” the statement reads.
