Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers has admitted to gambling on games, confirming reports of an ongoing investigation by the NFL into possible violations of the league’s gambling policy.

Rodgers took to Twitter to take full responsibility for his actions and apologize for any distractions caused to the Colts organization, coaches, and teammates. He expressed remorse for his mistakes and pledged to rectify the situation.

The NFL is investigating Rodgers for placing approximately 100 bets on an account opened under the name of an associate. Some of the bets reportedly involved Colts games.

If found guilty, Rodgers could face a lengthy suspension. This incident follows the suspension of Calvin Ridley in 2021 for gambling on games, including some involving the Atlanta Falcons. Ridley was reinstated after a year and subsequently traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“Addressing the current reports, I want to take full responsibility for my actions,” Rodgers tweeted. “I know I have made mistakes, and I am willing to do whatever it takes to repair the situation. The last thing I ever wanted to do was to be a distraction to the Colts organization, my coaches and my teammates. I’ve let people down that I care about. I made an error in judgment, and I am going to work hard to make sure that those mistakes are rectified through this process. It’s an honor to play in the NFL, and I have never taken that lightly. I am very sorry for all of us.”

Five NFL players have already been suspended this offseason for violations of the gambling policy, including Detroit Lions receiver Jameson Williams. The league takes gambling violations seriously and imposes strict penalties to maintain the integrity of the game.

The Indianapolis Colts acknowledged the investigation in a statement without mentioning Rodgers by name.

Rodgers, a sixth-round pick, is entering the final year of his four-year, $3.4 million contract. His potential suspension could affect the team’s cornerback rotation and provide an opportunity for rookie 2nd round pick Julius Brents.

The Indiana Gaming Commission confirmed it had received information regarding the matter and was monitoring developments.

The NFL prohibits players from betting on NFL games and placing bets while at NFL facilities, despite having sponsorship deals with sportsbooks and embracing sports betting.
