After it became public that former UMass standout Isaiah Rodgers was the subject of an NFL investigation into gambling violations, the Indianapolis Colts cornerback and kick returner took to Twitter to apologize.
“Addressing the current reports, I want to take full responsibility for my actions. I know have made mistakes and am willing to do whatever it takes to repair the situationThe last thing ever wanted to do was to be a distraction to the Colts organization, my coaches, and my teammates. I’ve let people down that I care about. I made an error in judgment and I am going to work hard to make sure that those mistakes are rectified through this process. It’s an honor to play in the NFL and I have never taken that lightly. I am very sorry for all of this.”
Rodgers didn’t address the specifics of the investigation.
SportsHandle.com initially reported an investigation into a Colts player for “pervasive betting, including wagers placed on his own team,” but didn’t name the player. Citing sources, ESPN reported that Rodgers was player in question. Rodgers, a former sixth-round pick is in the final year of a four-year contract.
According to ESPN:
“The sportsbook account was opened under the name of an associate of Rodgers, the sources said. Approximately 100 bets were placed on the account over an undisclosed amount of time, including on Colts games, the sources said. Most of the bets were in the $25-$50 range, although there was at least one low four-figure bet.”
Rodgers was taken 211th overall by the Colts in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Tampa, Florida native had 11 interceptions in his college career including a UMass school-record three for touchdowns.
