In this case, a horseshoe is very bad luck.

Not too long after several Lions players were suspended for gambling on games, the NFL may have more troubling waters to navigate. According to SportsHandle’s Matt Rybaltowski, a player on the Colts active roster is under investigation for placing “hundreds” of wagers, some of which were on Indianapolis.

ESPN’s Stephen Holder and David Purdum later reported that the player in question was Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers Sr., a fourth-year player out of UMass.

In May, reports surfaced that the NFL may be on the fringe of another round of suspensions that may result in a fifth Lions player getting a ban. The Lions may have some company on the suspension list if the Colts player is guilty of what’s being reported.

Here’s what to know about the Colts investigation:

Colts gambling investigation

According to a new report, a player on Indianapolis’ active roster is being investigated for placing “hundreds” of wagers, including bets on the Colts. It’s unclear exactly when the bets were placed, but the player’s “pervasive” gambling activity extended from the 2022 season into 2023.

Rybaltowski initially reported that the player is a member of the active roster, and isn’t considered a “superstar,” but has some name recognition. The player reportedly opened a betting account through an acquaintance.

ESPN later that the player in question was Isaiah Rodgers Sr., a starting cornerback on the team’s defense.

The Colts are aware of the investigation, but would not offer further comment as of June 5.

“We are aware of the NFL’s investigation and will have no further comment at this time,” the Colts said (via ESPN’s Stephen Holder).

The NFL and the NFLPA have yet to release statements on the investigation.

The NFL’s policy on sports betting makes it abundantly clear that any players who gamble on NFL games or on other sports while in team facilities will be handed lengthy suspensions. Wide receiver Calvin Ridley received a yearlong suspension for betting on games while a member of the Falcons.
