Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Sheetal Angural has been asked to appear in person at a chief judicial magistrate court in Jalandhar on June 12 in connection with a case registered against him under the Gambling Act.
The notice issued by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (NRI Court, Jalandhar) Gagandeep Singh Garg on June 1, a copy of which is with The Indian Express, said, “Notice issued to accused Sheetal Angural received back unserved. Fresh notice be issued to accused Sheetal Angural. Letter received from the IO (Investigating Officer). No other evidence has been cited on behalf of the prosecution. One last opportunity is given to the prosecution to conclude the evidence. It is made clear that if the accused Sheetal Angural does not appear in person on the next date of hearing then coercive steps shall be taken to compel the appearance of the accused”.
The MLA from the Jalandhar West assembly segment was booked in a case under several sections of the Gambling Act at the Bhargo Camp police station. The police have framed charges in the case.
According to the police, the case was registered during the Covid period in 2020, when Section 144 was enforced against the assembly of people under social distancing norms.
Angural could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
According to his poll affidavit, Angural has nine police cases pending against him under various charges of fraud, attempt to murder, assault on public servant, kidnapping, etc.
