Former NYSP sergeant pleads guilty to tipping off gambling ring | Fingerlakes1.com

Thomas Loewke, a former sergeant with the New York State Police, has entered a guilty plea on the charge of obstructing a state or local law enforcement investigation.

The charge stems from allegations that Loewke tipped off the alleged orchestrator of an illicit gambling operation based in Rochester.

The complaint states that in December 2020, an unidentified state trooper spotted a document bearing the name Louis Ferrari while performing computer maintenance for a senior police investigator.

The trooper then reportedly placed multiple calls to Loewke, who subsequently informed Ferrari about the ongoing gambling investigation against him.

He now faces a federal prison sentence of 12-18 months, with his lawyers retaining the option to appeal for a reduced sentence. His sentencing is scheduled for September 6.
