KOTTAYAM: A Police officer had a tragic death after he fell down from the second floor of a building while trying to apprehend gamblers at Ramapuram near Pala in Kerala’s Kottayam district on Sunday.
It was Joby George, 52, grade sub-inspector of Ramapuram police station who succumbed to injuries in a private hospital around 1am on Sunday.
He fell down from the building near the bus stand in Ramapuram where migrant workers stayed. The Police team led by Joby had arrived here by 11pm on Saturday after being tipped off about gambling being held here.
The officer tried to kick the door open after the members of the gambling gang went inside the room and locked themselves. The officer while trying to kick the door open fell down from the second floor. He was rushed to a private hospital in Cherppunkal. However, he succumbed to injuries by 1am.
He is survived by his wife Bindu and daughter Alphonsa who is a class nine student. The mortal remains will be kept for public homage at Ramapuram police station at 2pm on Monday. The funeral will be held at Ponkunnam Holy Family Forane church at 11am on Tuesday.
