Assassin's Creed Mirage might be for adults only due to "Real Gambling"

The Entertainment Software Rating Board has given just 27 games an “Adults-Only” rating. Outside of 2009’s Manhunt 2 (Uncut Version), you’d be hard-pressed to name one of the other 26. But, according to recent reports, Ubisoft is staring at the possibility one of its upcoming games being added to the infamous list soon.

For what it’s worth, the official trailer on Ubisoft gives Assassin’s Creed Mirage a “PEGI 18” rating.

If things don’t change, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage could get an “Adults-Only” rating once it comes out because it contains two fateful words: Real Gambling.

According to the Microsoft Store, the upcoming stealth-focused installment in Ubisoft’s award-winning series will feature Intense Violence, Blood and Gore, Sexual Themes, Partial Nudity, and Real Gambling. If you remove Real Gambling, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage will land itself squarely within the series’ usual M-rating category, which is more likely.

Keep in mind that most digital marketplaces refuse to list games with an AO rating. Ubisoft and Assassin’s Creed might be one of the larger players in the gaming industry, but they’re not exactly in a good financial shape. Ubisoft can’t afford for Mirage NOT to sell well. This would imply that things will still change for Mirage. This also makes sense since Ubisoft Bordeaux is still working on the game ahead of its potential launch next year.

For what it’s worth, other retailers like Amazon haven’t given Mirage a rating yet. So, until it’s confirmed, we’re pretty much making much ado about nothing.

Mirage is too big and important for Ubisoft to risk releasing it as an “Adults-Only” game.

Speaking of Assassin’s Creed, Mirage isn’t the only thing from the franchise that fans should look forward to in the coming years. In addition to the Basim-led nthquel, Ubisoft will launch several new titles as part of Infinity along with a partnership with Netflix for a mobile game and a live-action TV series.
