The Ohio Casino Control Commission prohibited licensed sportsbooks in the state from taking any bets involving the Alabama Crimson Tide’s college baseball games after suspicious wagering activity was flagged.

ESPN first reported on the directive Monday night, stating the decision was made after the detection of suspicious wagering activity. Matthew T. Schuler, the executive director of the commission, issued the mandate, which became effective immediately.

The suspicious activity came during Alabama’s eventual 8-6 loss Friday against No. 1 LSU.

The University of Alabama released a statement on Tuesday.

“Alabama Athletics became aware of this situation Monday evening and is actively seeking information about the report,” a Crimson Tide athletics spokesperson wrote in a statement to The Tuscaloosa News, which is part of the USA TODAY Network.

Per ESPN, Schuler wrote in the order that U.S. Integrity, an independent firm based in Las Vegas that monitors wagering activity, issued an alert to sportsbooks involving the Friday game after it detected “suspicious wagering activity.”

By the seventh inning of the contest, LSU had run out to an 8-1 lead, in part thanks to a pair of three-run innings in the third and sixth. Then, after cutting the lead to six in the eighth, Alabama posted a four-run rally in the ninth, before ultimately falling short.

The Tigers (35-8, 15-5 in the SEC) would go on to sweep Alabama (30-15, 9-12) in the three-game weekend series.

The Crimson Tide begin a three-game series Thursday against No. 5 Vanderbilt.
