3 men in police custody for ‘illegal gambling’

THREE billiards players were arrested after they were caught allegedly betting on a game in Barangay Alta Vista, Poro, Camotes Islands, Cebu on Friday night, September 9, 2022.

They were identified as Gerald Garciano, a 30-year-old farmer in the barangay; his neighbor Reymund Castro, 23; and 38-year-old security guard Richard Pilay.

Considered at large are Lydon and Nemmuel Dalumpines, Edwin Dondoyano, Jonard Rosal, Brian Castro, Nathaniel Surbano and Lorephil Robledo.

Corporal Benjie Mabulay of the Poro Police Station told Superbalita Cebu that they received a call on their hotline regarding illegal gambling in the area.

According to the caller, people were using playing cards to bet on billiards games, or “baraha-ay.”

He said they conducted a raid and took into custody the three suspects, while the seven others were able to flee.

Police recovered P70, a set of playing cards, a blue chalk, 15 billiards balls and two cues.

Mabulay said they’ve received several complaints about people playing “baraha-ay” in the area.

The suspects will be charged with violating Presidential Decree 1602 for illegal gambling. (GPL)
