CEBU CITY – Police arrested seven persons in a week-long anti-illegal gambling operation in Cebu.
The campaign targeted individuals involved in the illegal numbers game called “swertres.”
On Tuesday, Sept. 6, four persons were arrested, including Philip Mapoy Laging, an employee of the Saturn Gaming N’ Amusement Operation.
The Regional Intelligence Division-7 led by Lt. Col. Ronnie Failoga arrested Laging in Sitio Sog-ong, Barangay Tabok, Danao City.
Laging’s alleged cohort, a certain “Wally,” eluded arrest.
Police said Laging and Wally were both workers of Saturn.
Saturn, the lone company authorized to operate Small Town Lottery in Cebu, warned that it will not tolerate illegal activities involving its employees.
“We are saddened that there are some employees who moonlight as ushers of illegal gambling game named swertres. This should serve as a warning against those employees of Saturn that these actions will not be tolerated,” said Andrea Alzate, general manager of Saturn.
Also on Sept. 6, three persons were arrested in in Carcar City.
Arrested were Rolando Traya Panugaling, 56; Jonel Lapiña Lañas, 33; and Roldan Emphasis Gemelisawan 38.
On Wednesday, Sept. 7, police arrested Jose Roy Pansoy, 41, in Barangay Dakit, Barili.
The next day, Thursday, Sept. 8, polic arrested Yoradly Maghanoy Marimon, 37, in Barili.
In Barangay Tuyan, Naga City, Russel Perono Juarez, 31, was allegedly caught selling number combinations to his patrons.
