Singapore’s Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) restricted domestic access to Polymarket, following France and Taiwan, in a move to stop unlicensed online gambling.
Singapore has been the latest jurisdiction to force Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block access to Polymarket, one of the world’s largest decentralized market prediction platforms.
Over the weekend, city-state users experienced difficulties in accessing the betting platform. A user shared a screenshot of Polymarket’s homepage on X with the notice from Singapore’s GRA, warning users that the site is illegal. Anyone who tries to access the site could face a $10,000 fine, six months in jail, or both, according to the warning shared in the post.

“You have attempted to access an illegal gambling site hosted by an unlicensed gambling service provider,” says the statement.
The GRA has not yet made a public statement or taken any legal action against Polymarket, a public directory shows. Singaporean users who want to gamble online must use Singapore Pools, the country’s only licensed provider for online gambling.
This restriction follows the country’s effort to stop unlicensed online gambling. Over 3,800 websites had already been shut down, and $37 million in transactions had been blocked as of Dec. 31 last year.
Taiwan And France Restrictions On Polymarket
Singapore was not the only country that restricted access to Polymarket. After Polymarket’s popularity dropped during the 2024 presidential election, many other countries banned the platform.
Among the first of the countries to block users from accessing Polymarket was Taiwan. The restriction was followed by local police arresting 17 people who placed bets on the recent presidential election, which is strictly prohibited by Taiwanese election law. Similarly, the prediction market platform was also blocked in France after an investigation by France’s national gaming authority.
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission started investigating Polymarket as well, and asked Coinbase to provide information about US nationals trading on Polymarket.
