Adult gaming centre moving in to empty Swindon town centre unit

Kilpatrick & Co has secured a new letting on 56 Bridge Street, which was previously Betfred before they closed down.

The new tenant, an adult gaming centre, is currently fitting out the premises after acquiring planning consent.

Harries-Jones Gaming limited made an application to Swindon Borough Council for an adult gaming centre premises licence under section 159 of the Gambling Act 2005 to take over 56 Bridge Street last year.

The ground floor shop was available from October 2023, extending to 1,131 sq ft with a customer area, counter, office and customer toilet and a staff room and WC at the rear of the property for an asking rent of £19,000 per annum.

The new business is expected to be opening soon, but a date is yet to be confirmed.

Alex Hill of Kilpatrick & Co said “We are pleased to complete this letting and get another vacant shop in the Town Centre reoccupied. We are trying to help property owners revive this part of town, having successfully achieved a lease renewal on 59/60 Bridge Street to Ofie Ltd.

“We are also marketing the former Wilko building in Fleet Street and have just got instructed to market Ground Floor of the former Glasshouse pub at 25 Bridge Street offering 2,788 sq ft for retail or restaurant use as a whole or in parts, and are assisting the new owner of the former Liquor Lounge at 18/22 Bridge Street/Fleet Street.”

The adult gaming centre will accompany Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Merkur Slots and Shipley’s on Bridge Street and William Hill just a short walk away.

Shipley’s is the most recent gambling outlet to open on Bridge Street with a ‘bingo lounge’, which welcomed customers with a ‘royal’ opening with William and Kate lookalikes on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

Area manager Gareth Lewis told the Advertiser that the focus was on “putting something back into the town” by creating a social environment where people could enjoy bingo on online bingo screens and spend the day somewhere warm with refreshments and food available at affordable prices.
