There is a new name over the door at the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), the British gambling industry’s trade body, with Grainne Hurst having taken over as chief executive this autumn at a vital time for the sector.
Hurst succeeds Michael Dugher in the role, although her predecessor remains part of the team at the BGC having assumed the role of chairman.
Dugher was known for not mincing his words when making the case for the gambling industry and Hurst is not afraid to make her points forcefully either, whether that was slamming “armchair economists” over proposals to raise tax on the sector or criticising the “disdain” with which some anti-gambling campaigners discuss Safer Gambling Week.
