HIGH POINT — Police seized illegal gambling equipment and several thousands of dollars in cash this week from an internet cafe that opened downtown recently.
On Tuesday morning, detectives with the High Point Police Department’s Vice/Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at Taps Internet Cafe at 301 Sunset Drive, at the intersection with Lindsay Street.
Detectives seized money ledgers, several hard drives and motherboards from electronic games and more than $3,500 in cash. Charges are pending, police said Thursday.

Police told The High Point Enterprise that someone called last week saying that the business was a gambling operation.
The cafe had been in a small business center between a residential neighborhood and the campus of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center.
Sweepstakes cafes violate state laws for gambling and electronic gaming machines, according to the police. If a business is operating illegally in the city, detectives with the High Point Police Department’s Vice/Narcotics Unit will investigate and file charges, if necessary.
