AHMEDABAD: The Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) of the Ahmedabad police on Wednesday night raided a five-star hotel on Sindhu Bhavan Road and arrested 10 men including the hotel owner for gambling.
As per an FIR filed with Sarkhej police, a team of PCB got an input that the owner of hotel Taj Skyline – Kailash Goenka – was running a gambling den in the hotel.
A team of PCB carried out a raid at the hotel at around 10.45pm on Wednesday.
The PCB cops climbed to the seventh floor of the hotel and knocked on the door of room number 721.
Goenka himself opened the door and cops rushed inside the room where they found a round table and ten chairs around it where nine men were sitting with playing cards and chips.
The FIR stated that cops found various red and white chips from the table. Goenka said that he had managed those chips which had different values. He said that each red coin is worth Rs 1,000 and each white coin is worth Rs 500.
“Goenka told cops that he usually invites people from his friend circle for gambling in the hotel where he provides these chips and after the gambling is over, he provides money in lieu of the chips’ value,” said the FIR.
Cops said that others who were caught while gambling were identified as Shankar Mohan Patel, 57, Hasmukh Mafatlal Parikh, 56, Ajit Shantilal Shah, 49 and Kanu Ambalal Patel, 58.
The other accused were identified as Bhavin Indrajeet Parikh, 47, Pradip Ram Patel, 59, Bharat Manilal Patel, 59, Jagdish Bhagwan Desai, 59 and Narendra Jivanlal Patel, 57.
The FIR mentions that the cops seized Rs 9.83 lakh cash from the accused and four cell phones worth Rs 65,000.
