A player scored on purpose against his own net at the end of a match for a lower league in Brazil.

During a game of the second division of Amazonas State Championship, midfielder Julio Campos from Atletico Amazonense scored against his own goal at the 89th minute when his side was already losing 1-3 to Sul America.

When receiving a ball from his goalkeeper, Campos simply turned back and scored an own goal, helping his side losing 1-4.

Atletico Amazonense released a statement saying that the club “does not tolerate unsportsmanlike attitudes”, adding that will investigate the matter and that “those involved have already been fired from the club”.

Local media in Brazil is raising suspicion of possible result manipulation in the matter.

The Amazonas state federation declared that they will present the case to the Sports Court and to Police for investigation, according to ge.globo.
