Kindred Group’s boast that it “continues to transform gambling” was looking hollow yesterday when two of its businesses were handed a penalty of £7.1 million for safer gambling and anti-money laundering failings.
Platinum Gaming, the operator behind Unibet, and 32Red Ltd, which operates 32red.com, were also given an official warning after the investigation by the UK Gambling Commission into the activities of Kindred.
Kindred, which sponsors football clubs including Rangers, Middlesbrough and Derby County, was given a penalty of £4.2 million over 32Red’s activities and a penalty of £2.9 million in respect of Platinum’s behaviour.
Shares of the company, which is based in Malta but listed on the Stockholm exchange, lost SKr1.60, or 1.42 per cent, to SKr110.95, valuing the company at almost Skr26 billion.
