On 75th Foundation Day of Ulhasnagar, citizens decided to make city gambling and drug free

ULHASNAGAR: The 75th foundation day of Ulhasnagar city was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the city on Thursday.
During this occasion, a grand programme was organised by Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Rotary Club of Sapna Garden, Sukhramani Foundation, and Sindhu Education Society, all together at Virat Ambe Sports Complex, where the foundation was laid during the establishment of the city in 1948.
At the programme, apart from various dignitaries of the city, Municipal Commissioner Aziz Sheikh, MLA Kumar Ailani, and Mahesh Sukhramani, Working President of Maharashtra State Sindhi Sahitya Academy, also participated in this programme.
During this programme, Sukhramani said, “In recent time there is rise in gambling and drugs related cases in city hence today during the foundation day programme we have decided to run a campaign to make the city gambling free and drug free.”
Sukhramani said, “Under this campaign, we will try to make the city gambling and drug free by running a campaign against the gambling dens and drug addiction running in the city.”
At the programme, the team of The Ideal Indian Book of Records and Prime World Record declared about registering Sukhramani Foundation for holding the largest flag procession for the 2 km long tricolour during the last foundation day programme period.
At the programme, apart from the political, cultural, and other areas of the city, school and college children from the city also participated in this programme.
It may be recalled that Ulhasnagar city was earlier known as Kalyan Military Camp. Earlier it was known for its Barrack Camp built for military personnel, but when the country was divided, a large number of people of the Sindhi community living on the Pakistani side left Pakistan and settled here.
During this time, on 8 August 1948, the then Governor General of India C Rajagopalachari laid the foundation of this city and named it Ulhasnagar.
After which, the people of the Sindhi community who left everything in Pakistan and came here, made this deserted barrack camp now known as a business centre in the entire Thane district with their hard work.
