Seven arrested for gambling in Thaltej, 5 give cops the slip

Ahmedabad: Crime branch sleuths have arrested seven persons from a house in the Thaltej area of the city. The accused, along with five others who managed to escape, were gambling in a house near Mahila Talav in Thaltej.
Acting on a tip-off, the cops raided the area and found 12 people gambling in the house. However, five of them managed to escape.

Those arrested are Ghanshyam Patel (51), a resident of Shilaj; Dinesh Thakor (42), a resident of Kalol; Lala Bharwad (41) and Suresh Bharwad (36), both residents of Hebatpur; Maheshkumar Patel (43) and Amit Kadiya (51), both residents of Ghatlodia; and Meet Darji (28), a resident of New Gota.
The cops said that during the raid, they recovered cash amounting to Rs 4.37 lakh from the possession of these seven accused and another Rs 17,500, which was the money placed for betting. The cops said the five who are absconding are Jatin Patel of Kadi, Mukesh Desai of Thaltej, Abduljabbar Sheikh of Shahpur, Anil Bharwad of Hebatpur, and Ranjit Thakor, a resident of Bopal.
Police registered a case under the gambling law. Ghanshyam was earlier arrested for gambling in Sarkhej and Bopal, while Mahesh had one gambling case each at Santej and Detroj police stations.
