(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments start this week, which means it is Prime Time for the state’s sports books.

Some estimates suggest between $10 billion and $15 billion dollars will be wagered on the college basketball tournaments.

Close to $300 million dollars were wagered in Illinois last year.

“Americans always bet on sports, we’ve just recently had the opportunity to do a lot more of that within the confines and protections of the legally protected market,” Casey Clark, senior vice president of the American Gaming Association, tells the Noon Business Hour.

The Supreme Court legalized sports gambling in all 50 states in a 2018 decision.
