Its dangers can lead to financial ruin, health problems and emotional devastation
A few days ago, I met a person from our village who looked distraught and sleepy, as if he were ill. I intervened and asked him what was the matter. “Why are you looking like this? I saw you some days ago, and you were looking charming.” I insisted on knowing the truth, and although he did not wish to tell me initially, he eventually broke down. He began weeping like a child, and tears flowed from my eyes as well. He started to explain how he became a victim of online gambling, losing his precious and hard-earned money on various betting applications and gambling sites. He confessed that he brought this upon himself and is now unable to move forward. Smoking cigarettes is his only relief, albeit temporary. His story made me think about the youth of Kashmir, who are also getting involved in online gambling. There are many reasons for this:
Indolence or Sitting Idly at Home
One primary reason people participate in online gambling is idleness. Sitting at home with nothing to do, they dream of becoming wealthy overnight. This idle time can lead to various health issues, including heart diseases, as they axe their own lives by engaging in such destructive activities.
Unemployment
Unemployment is another significant factor. When people don’t have work, they seek alternatives and shortcuts to earn a livelihood. With market prices soaring, people look for quick ways to make money, and gambling-related activities often seem like a viable option.
Companionship of Gambling Friends
Another reason is the company one keeps. When friends or colleagues continuously participate in gambling activities, it becomes easy for someone to join in, thinking that if their friends can do it, so can they.
Celebrity Endorsements
Many celebrities advertise gambling platforms on big screens. Recently, in the IPL, some famous Bollywood and cricket celebrities promoted gambling activities through social media and television. These endorsements have a significant impact on the public.
Social Appreciation of Gamblers
Lastly, when gamblers win lotteries or other gambling-related activities, they are often socially or personally appreciated. This glorification makes gambling seem attractive to others, who then participate in similar activities, only to become victims and losers, turning their lives into hell.
In conclusion, gambling has created more losers than winners. It makes lives hell for many. The solution lies in working hard and living life happily. The more you work, the easier your life will become.
