17-year-old among 7 arrested for illegal online gambling activities in Ubi, $4,480 in cash seized

Five men and two women, aged between 17 and 69, are being investigated for their suspected involvement in illegal online gambling activities, said the police in a statement on June 18.

During the operation conducted by officers from Bedok Police Division and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority at Ubi Avenue 3 on June 10, cash amounting to more than S$4,480 and other gambling-related paraphernalia were seized.

Investigations against the seven people are ongoing.

Any individual who gambles with another person in or from any place or premises in Singapore and knows, or ought reasonably to have known, that the place or premises is an unlawful gambling place shall be guilty of an offence and be liable on conviction to a fine of up to $10,000 or imprisonment of up to six months or both.

Any individual who conducts betting operations, gaming or lotteries unlawfully, shall be guilty of an offence and be liable on conviction to a fine of up to $200,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
