The federal government says the changes are evidence based and will reduce harm but they’ve been criticised for not going further.
Meanwhile the New South Wales government has shelved a bill regulating the use of facial recognition technology in clubs.
The crossbench had planned to introduce amendments to mandate the use of cashless gambling cards on slot machines, , which was a key recommendation in a recent report by the state’s crime commission.
