Official: Fagioli returns to Juventus squad after gambling ban

Juventus coach Paolo Montero has released his squad list for tonight’s Serie A match against Bologna, and Nicolò Fagioli is back after a seven-month gambling ban.

Juventus midfielder Fagioli could make his first appearance in a competitive game tonight, returning to action after a seven-month ban for gambling.

Fagioli was given a 12-month suspension on October 17, 2023, after admitting to having gambled on football games through illegal platforms and accepted a plea bargain, including therapy for gambling addiction.

The original 12-month ban was commuted by five to seven with certain provisos, including attending treatment for gambling addiction for a minimum of six months.

Fagioli has made six appearances this season, the last was on October 1 in a 0-0 draw against Atalanta in Bergamo. The 23-year-old continued training with the rest of the team during his ban and made a number of public appearances to raise awareness of gambling and help others avoid a similar fate.

Fagioli is not expected to start at the Stadio Dall’Ara tonight.

Only Mattia De Sciglio, injured, and Paul Pogba, suspended for doping, are not available for Juventus against Bologna.

The Bianconeri took off for Bologna from Turin Caselle Airport on Monday morning.
