ALLEN PARK — Former Detroit Lions players C.J. Moore and Quintez Cephus have been reinstated by the NFL after serving one-year suspensions for a violation of the league’s gambling policy.

Both players were accused of gambling on NFL games and were immediately released by the team last April, while two other players — receivers Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill — were suspended six games for betting on non-NFL games from inside a league facility. Williams’ suspension was eventually shortened to four games after a change to the NFL rules, and he finished the season with 24 catches for 354 yards in 12 games.

Moore, on the other hand, lost his job following the investigation. He was a core member of the special teams unit, and ranked in the top five in special-teams tackles in all four seasons in Detroit. He was paid like it too, inking a two-year, $4.5 million contract last offseason. And less than a month later, he was out of a job.

A fifth-round pick in 2020, Cephus caught 37 passes for 568 yards and four touchdowns in 22 games.

Moore and Cephus are free agents who can sign anywhere they want.
