Panaji: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling in the state, Goa police on Saturday raided 29 illegal gambling dens and arrested 29 persons. Police also seized around Rs 50,000 during the operation.
Out of the 29 raids, 24 were conducted in North Goa and five were in South. Panaji and Old Goa police stations led the action in most of the cases. The operation was conducted in view of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held on May 7.
Goa police have taken preventive action against over 200 criminals and anti-social elements to ensure the elections can be conducted without any issues.Police have also executed 238 non-bailable warrants.
