Safer Gambling Week – Responsible gambling

Safer Gambling Week takes place across the UK and Ireland from Monday October 17 to Sunday October 23.

Bookmakers will be promoting tools that are available to help their customers gamble responsibly and on top of that will give out continued advice and support – not just this week but in the future.

Safer Gambling Week

It’s now the fifth year of the annual Safer Gambling Week, with bookmakers and websites within the industry sending messages about responsible gambling online and in betting shops across the UK.

The aim is to allow the nation’s bettors to talk openly about gambling as well as offer the required help needed for anyone who feels as though they are experiencing a problem with their gambling.

Gambling responsibly

Betting and gaming operators across the UK continue to promote safer gambling, not just this week, but all year round, and there are a host of different tools used such as deposit limits, time-outs and, of course, the self-exclusion from services, that can help you with this.

The week gives many businesses across the UK the chance to go further than the normal tools they offer on a daily basis in the hope of helping people who have a problem or addiction, and the aim is to allow people in all walks of life to talk and open up a conversation around gambling.

Signs of responsible gambling

There can be many different types of problem gambling and it’s important to recognise the signs of what irresponsible gambling looks like.

Perhaps it may be necessary to ensure that there are time and monetary limits set before gambling to keep you in complete control, to help ensure that you never try to chase your losses.

If you are feeling upset, angry or disappointed then that is not a time to gamble, and it’s important to know that if you feel this way you can contact the National Gambling Helpline on the number below.

If you want to find out what kind of gambler you are, you can also take the Gamalyze test here and it will give you an instant result.
