Melco Cyprus, operator of Cyprus Casinos (C2) and the upcoming integrated resort (IR) City of Dreams Mediterranean, took part in the fifth Safer Gambling Conference, during Safer Gambling Week (SGW), as organised by the National Betting Authority over October 3-9. The Company’s participation demonstrates its continued efforts to raise awareness for Responsible Gaming (RG) and provide its customers with a safe gaming environment.
In a panel discussion titled “Sustainable safer gambling and safer gambling practices in the gaming industry”, Pinelope Georgiou, Responsible Gaming Manager at Melco Cyprus, said the success of Melco’s global RG strategy relies on a well-tested, three-pronged approach, which provides a solid framework for RG across Melco’s resorts: technology and processes, community engagement and colleague education.
She also highlighted that the sustainable development and continued implementation of a Responsible Gaming culture is one of Melco’s most important priorities across all jurisdictions of its operation. “For Melco, Responsible Gaming is not a legal obligation but an integral part of our culture,” she said.
The Melco Cyprus Responsible Gaming Manager also listed the safer gambling standards followed by C2, which draw on available tools, training programmes, responsible marketing practices and other measures, adding that only companies that take responsible gaming seriously will survive in the regulated markets of the future. Furthermore, Georgiou emphasised that the evaluation of practices is key to developing and maintaining a successful RG programme, stating that Melco Cyprus reviews and analyses RG figures to manage outcomes through strategic objectives.
Melco is the first gaming operator in Europe to achieve the international third-party responsible gaming accreditation ‘RG Check’ from the Responsible Gambling Council. This achievement further establishes Melco Resorts & Entertainment as the first and only integrated resort operator in the world to be recognised by RG Check across all its operating jurisdictions – Macau, the Philippines and Cyprus.
C2 continues to enhance awareness through on-site leaflets, displays and signage, highlighting RG messages with the slogan ‘Stay in Control’. Further C2 initiatives active during SGW include the display of promotional banners at all casino entrances. internal events, online games and RG Booths at all C2 locations, as well as a specialised RG training course offered by the Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission, the sector’s regulator in Cyprus, to further improve patrons’ and colleagues’ relevant knowledge and skills.
