The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) on Tuesday issued a decision suspending five players of a football club in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, southern Vietnam indefinitely for gambling.
The VFF disciplinary committee handed the national-match ban to the five players for their negative conduct during a game between their club, Ba Ria-Vung Tau FC, and SHB Da Nang FC on December 24 last year.
The match, which took place at Ba Ria Stadium in the southern province, was part of the Gold Star V. League 2, the second-highest of the Vietnam football league system, after the V.League 1.
They are Tran Ky Anh, Nguyen Son Hai, Le Bang Gia Huy, Nguyen Quang Huy, and Pham Van Phong.
Colonel Bui Van Thao, director of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Public Security, said that investigators requested prosecution against the five players for gambling in line with Article 321 of the Criminal Code in early February.
The five were granted bail during the investigation.
The preliminary investigation result showed that the five bet on SHB Da Nang winning the game against their club on some gambling websites.
They underperformed during the match.
As a result, the Ba Ria – Vung Tau team lost 1-3 to the Da Nang rivals.
