DHHS to move forward with gender-affirming care regulations

Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services will move forward with controversial proposed regulations to govern access to gender-affirming care for the state’s transgender youth.

The State Board of Health on Monday voted unanimously to approve a certificate of review for the regulations, paving the way for HHS to send the restrictions on to the Attorney General’s Office for review.

The vote came amid a sparsely attended Board of Health meeting Monday morning. An HHS spokesman confirmed later Monday that Nebraska’s chief medical officer opted not to make substantial changes to the regulations he drafted in October.

Pink returning to Pinnacle Bank Arena

Pink will be back at Pinnacle Bank Arena for the first time in six years Oct. 20.

The acrobatic pop star last played the arena in 2018, drawing a sold-out crowd of 14,300 to witness her spectacular singing-dancing-flying show. She has since played two Omaha concerts, the last one a stadium show at Charles Schwab Field that drew a crowd of more than 35,000 on a sweltering day in August.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

Casino gambling a hit

The first full year of casino gambling in Nebraska ended with a bang.

The state’s four racetrack casinos brought in nearly $8.9 million in revenue in December, which was the second straight record monthly amount. That capped off a year that saw just over $89 million spent on slot machines, table games and sports betting.

The bulk of that money, $51.5 million, was spent at Lincoln’s WarHorse Casino. That consisted of $50.2 million on slots and $1.3 million on sports betting.

That’s it for Tuesday, Jan. 23. Stay in the know with Lincoln’s longest-standing news source at JournalStar.com and we’ll see you back here tomorrow.
