Farmer ends life after threats from gambling accused

Rajkot: Four persons were booked for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 31-year-old farmer in Manavadar town of Junagadh district on Sunday. The deceased identified as Rahul Lokhil was found hanging in his room on Saturday night.
Police have booked Devabhai Jalu, Mihir Herma, Kanji Jalu and Rohit Jalu, all residents of Pajod village of Manavadar. The accused had threatened Rahul, suspecting that he had informed the police about their gambling den.
According to police, on the intervening night of September 27 and 28, the police raided a gambling den in Pajod and arrested Mihir, Kanji and Rohit.
After getting bail the next day, the accused threatened Rahul. They even went to his house and threatened to beat him up.
On September 30, when Rahul’s mother went to attend a garba event in the village, the accused allegedly threatened to kill her. When Rahul’s mother told him about the threats, Rahul got terrified and refused to go out of the house fearing an attack by the accused.
On Saturday night, Rahul was found hanging in his room in his house. Based on the statement of the family members, police booked the four accused for abetting suicide, said sub-inspector J H Kachot of Bantwa police station where the FIR was lodged by Dinesh Lokhil, uncle of the deceased.
