Netherlands Minister Weerwind Unveils Fresh Strategies to Address Gambling Issues

The recently revealed measures include a mandate for operators to reach out to players who have set a deposit limit of €350 (£303/$386). Operators are required to inform these players about the risks associated with gambling in such high amounts.

Netherlands Minister Weerwind introduces initiatives to address gambling issues amid concerning industry developments. With the Remote Gambling Act evaluation expected in 2024, Weerwind implements measures in advance, including mandatory outreach to players with a €350 deposit limit. Additional proposals involve displaying amounts in euros and advocating for research on gaming limits. Weerwind’s multi-year campaign against online gambling fraud was launched in October. NOGA expresses concerns about making legal gambling less attractive. Netherlands Gaming Authority proposes updated rules recognizing signs of excessive gambling and contacting high deposit players. The consultation aims to publish new rules by April, responding to a previous report highlighting risks due to operator neglect.
