Mount Airy Casino Resort is facing over a quarter-million dollars in fines, the bulk of which are penalties for underage gambling, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced Wednesday.

According to a release from the PGCB, the agency issued three consent agreements Wednesday totaling $280,825 in fines against two gaming operators, $260,825 of which were directed at Mount Airy #1 LLC, the operator of the Mount Pocono casino resort.

The larger fine of $160,000 against Mount Airy focused on three instances in which individuals under the legal gambling age of 21 gained access to the casino floor and gambled: a 18-year-old male who gambled at two slot machines; an 11-year-old female who gambled at 10 slot machines while both parents were present with her and cashed two vouchers; and two 13-year-old females who gambled at slot machines with their mother.

The second fine of $100,825 came from the failure of Mount Airy to timely file 32 corporate or individual renewal applications by the statutorily mandated due dates. In addition, the failure to gain re-licensing of one individual led to the failure to meet a mandated condition connected to Mount Airy’s slot machine license.

As per the PGCB, “The Gaming Act makes it unlawful for an individual under 21 years of age to enter and remain in any area of a licensed facility where slot machines are operated or the play of table games is conducted, and to wager, play or attempt to play a slot machine or table game at a licensed facility.”

“The ownership of Mount Airy Casino Resort respects the decision of the Gaming Board and we are always working towards further improving our processes,” a statement from the casino resort issued through Red Thread PR reads.
