Kolkata: The Bidhannagar police’s enforcement branch seized Rs 1.3 lakh from two illegal gambling den operators in Baguiati on Wednesday. Acting on a tip, cops raided a house in Jangra-Helabattala in Baguiati and found some persons gambling. Cops managed to nab Prabir Sikdar (40) and Nemai Chowdhury (56), but others fled. Cops seized 30 satta pads and Rs 1.3 lakh in cash.

The police have set up special squads to trace the sale of banned products. In another incident, a gutka manufacturing unit operating from a poultry farm was busted in Osmanabad district. Over 2,500 personnel will be deployed to ensure a peaceful Ganpati festival in Nashik. The Jalna police raided a farm and seized over 500 fully grown marijuana plants.
37 held for gambling in resort owned by doctor
37 people, including five women, were arrested by the police in Pauri Garhwal district for engaging in gambling at a resort in Rishikesh’s Ganga Bhogpur area. The arrests were made following a tip-off about ongoing gambling activities at the resort, which is owned by a prominent doctor. During the raid, the police seized cash, poker chips, mobile phones, and liquor bottles. The resort owner and three others were booked, and an investigation is underway to determine if others were involved.
