A Danish Twitch streamer has been fined DKK 10,000 (approximately $1,457) by the Danish Gambling Authority for promoting unlicensed gambling providers in contravention of the new law..
This is the first time the Danish Gambling Authority has taken action against a streamer for promoting illicit gambling services after the law changed to only allow Danish streamers to promote those with a Danish license.
Unlicensed Gambling Platform Clampdown
The streamer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found to have advertised a gambling provider without a Danish license during their live stream. Spillemyndigheden, the Danish Gambling Authority were made aware of the streamer’s actions earlier this year and reported them to the police.
After assessing the case, the police agreed with the regulator’s findings and imposed the recommended fine on the streamer for the violations.
The Danish Gambling Authority has been actively working to crack down on illegal gambling websites and collaborators targeting Danish citizens without obtaining the proper license. Recently, the authority revealed that it has blocked a total of 49 illegal websites during its annual crackdown.
Industry heavy-hitter Betfair recently found out that it isn’t a special case when the Danish authorities handed them three orders and a reprimand for breaching anti-money laundering legislation.
Twitch has also been taking steps to prevent the showcasing of unlicensed gambling sites on its site. In October 2022, Twitch implemented a ban on the stream of various sites and recently added Blaze and Gamdom to its list of prohibited sites in an effort to protect its community from gambling-related harms and address predatory practices.
