Indore: Kotwali police busted a gambling gang and arrested 23 people including the husband of a corporator in Dewas on Sunday night.
The police also seized Rs 40000 cash, 23 mobile phones and two cars from the accused. The police acting on a tip off raided the office of corporator in the area to found accused gambling in a godown like structure besides the office of corporator, police said.
Kotwali police station incharge Deepak Singh Yadav said, “The police acting on a tip-off raided the spot around 10.30 pm on Sunday. In the raid, the police arrested 23 people from the spot and seized cash, mobiles, and cars from them.”
“The police also booked the husband of a corporator, Abid, 60, in the case. Further inquiry is on,” added Yadav. Abid is a also former corporator from the area, police said.
The police booked the accused under sections of Public Gambling Act, 1976 and imposed section 151 CrPC. The accused were produced before a SDM court in the matter, Yadav added. TNN

Former police circle officer Aley Hasan Khan has been granted bail by the Allahabad High Court in connection with 26 cases alleging his involvement in illegally grabbing land for Jauhar University in Rampur. The court observed that the FIRs were filed after a delay of 14 to 15 years and lacked specific details. It also noted that Khan was not in possession of any disputed land and that no sale deed had been executed in his favor. The court made the decision without expressing any opinion on the merits of the cases.
