YOUR front-page article on Scotland’s problem gamblers comes as no surprise, given the extent of television advertising (“New study of betting finds 31,000 Scots are problem gamblers”, The Herald, September 25).
Every break on commercial television seems to promote at least one of the innumerable bookmakers who are available.
Having stopped the advertising of cigarettes and alcohol on television, surely it is now incumbent on the authorities to bring in legislation on gambling, which can be every bit as disastrous for addicts as booze and fags?
