Troy's Reggie Bracy suspended amid Iowa gambling probe

Troy has suspended safety Reggie Bracy after the transfer from Iowa was named in a gambling probe involving his former school.

Bracy, a junior from Mobile, joined the Troy program over the summer after entering the NCAA transfer portal at the end of the 2022 season. He was working as a back-up safety in preseason camp with the Trojans.

Reports surfaced Thursday that Bracy and two other current or former Hawkeyes players and one student manager have been charged with “tampering with records” related to an investigation into sports gambling by Iowa state officials. According to the report, Bracy placed bets on two Iowa games in which he played during the 2022 season, using a teammate’s account to place 66 bets totaling $715 (Bracy allegedly used the teammate’s account because he was under 21 at the time).

Troy issued the following brief statement announcing Bracy’s suspension:

“Reggie Bracy has been suspended from all team-related activity in response to allegations of his conduct while he was a student-athlete at another institution. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Bracy signed with Iowa out of Mobile’s St. Paul’s Episcopal School in 2020. He played three seasons with the Hawkeyes in a reserve role, totaling 10 tackles and one pass breakup in 22 games.

Also named in the reports Thursday are former Iowa wide receiver Arland Bruce (now at Oklahoma State), walk-on wide receiver Jack Johnson and student manager Owen O’Brien. Bruce is accused of creating a DraftKings account under an assumed name (because he was not 21) and placing a total of 132 sports wagers totaling $4,342, including bets on 11 games in which he played.

Four current or former Iowa State players — running back Jirehl Brock, wide receiver DeShawn Hanika, and lineman Isaiah Lee and Jacob Remsburg — are also named in the probe. Tampering with records is classified as an “aggravated misdemeanor” in the state of Iowa.
