The NFL suspended four players for violating its policy on gambling, the league announced Thursday.
Indianapolis Colts’ safety Isaiah Rodgers and defensive end Rashod Berry, along with free agent defensive lineman Demetrious Taylor were all suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games last season. Tennessee Titans’ offensive tackle Nicolas Petit-Frere was suspended for six games for betting on non-NFL games while at a team facility.
Rodgers and Berry were waived by the Colts following the announcement of the suspensions.
According to ESPN, Rodgers allegedly made nearly 100 bets, including at least one wager on a game involving the Colts. Rodgers also made a $1,000 “prop bet’ on an over/under on total rushing yards by a Indianapolis running back. He won. Rodgers has said he takes “full responsibility” for his actions.
Petit-Frere received a six-game suspension instead of indefinite suspension because he bet on non-NFL sports while at the team’s practice facility. The league’s gambling rules include that NFL employees are prohibited from engaging in any form of gambling in any club or league facility or venue including a team’s practice facility.
The suspension of the four players is the latest shoe to drop following the league’s second investigation into player gambling. The league suspended five players for gambling violations in April. Detroit Lions’ 2022 first-round pick Jameson Williams, along with Lions’ wide receivers Stanley Berryhill and Quintez Cephus, safety C.J. Moore and Washington Commanders’ defensive end Shaka Toney all received suspensions of varying lengths by the league.
The Lions subsequently released Cephus, Moore and Berryhill.
