MANILA, Philippines — A South Korean national, Choi Sunghee, is set to be deported by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for illegal gambling activities in his home country.
On Thursday, the Bureau of Immigration Commissioner, Norman Tansingco, said in a press statement that Korean authorities had informed the bureau of illegal gambling operations by the suspect, Choi. It is reported that Choi had set up gambling websites that accepted bets for domestic and international sports.
According to Tansingco, South Korean law indicates that no person other than the Seoul Olympic Sports Promotion Foundation or an authorized entity may issue sports betting tickets or similar things to win at betting.
“Violators are punishable by imprisonment with labor for not more than seven years or face a fine not exceeding 70 million won,” said Tansingco.

“Following the information, Choi is set to be blacklisted, perpetually banning him from re-entering the Philippines,” he added.
Tansingco underscored the importance of collaborating with foreign governments to eradicate transnational crimes.
